Health classes explained
Understanding Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard: what each classification signifies and how circumstances influence which you fall into.
Insurance carriers organize term pricing via rate tier. Language varies somewhat between companies, but the progression stays uniform: Preferred Plus (Super Preferred or Preferred Best by some), Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard, along with add-ons for elevated risk. Tobacco buyers get parallel brackets at raised premiums.
What underwriters look at
Height and weight proportions, BP and cholesterol readings, whether heart disease or cancer appears in your family before turning 60, your motor vehicle record, current prescriptions, what you do for work and leisure activities, and any nicotine use. Getting the top tier requires nearly flawless scores everywhere; Preferred lets some areas slip; Standard Plus and Standard accommodate managed conditions like controlled blood pressure.
How to use the quote tool
The health portion asks for your sincere self-assessment: Excellent aligns with Preferred Plus, Very good with Preferred, Good with Standard Plus, and Average with Standard. Your quote matches that group; the carrier will finalize your group following underwriting. Uncertain? Pull two tier quotes and examine them, letting underwriting make the call. Overstating your condition doesn't reduce your eventual premium—it just makes the initial quote incorrect.
